Default 525 2004 won't accelerate instanly

I have a 525se 2004 and for the last year I have had problems.
The car drives great then I brake at a junction or roundabout and when I put my foot back on the accelerator nothing happens for about 4 seconds then it jerks suddenly.
When it does this I can cruise at say 30 mph and I can slowly push the accelerator down and I can press it down about an inch before anything happens. Sometimes when it does this I can get loads of smoke coming out of the exhaust for a few minutes then it clears. Also when it goes faulty the engine sounds more throaty.
No fault codes come up, I have has a mass air sensor replaced but nothing improved.
Sometimes it can drive brilliantly for about five days
I want to sell this car but can't sell it with this intermittent fault. I have had it in my local garage but they can't find what's up as it never does it when they have it.
CAN ANYONE HELP PLEASE

Sounds like a number of possible issues.
I would start by pulling all the plugs
Check coil packs and make sure you have good gas.

Like culprit could be your fuel pump. Is going south.
