163 HP in an E60? Sad. I know diesels have torque, but come on. A civic si has more horesepower.

I have read a test about that diesel and it nice but the engine is to small in an E60. I think you should go for a 525d.

It'll be the lowest fuel consumption E60 ever.
Mind you the old 520i was only 170bhp with fuel consumption similar to a 530i.

I would guess it will be a lot more driveable than 163 HP might suggest. Not sure where you are located Malcolm but if you take a test in the 520 let us know what you think. Is the 525d much more expensive than the 520d? If not that might be another option. Keep us posted!

yeah but it is 2.5 liter instead of 2.0 liter. By the way 6 cylider is better than 4!

Unhappy

from the magazine 520d 0-100 km/h 8.6 sec
525d 0-100 km/h 8.1 sec

is not a great difference..

Malcolm, the 520d will be fine. They will sell a bucket full in the UK, I guarantee you.

Take the 320d out for a spin to test the engine. It will not be that much different in the five, slightly more leisurely.

Don't let the 6-pot snobs put you off. It's a lot more grown up than the old 2.0d engine.

If you get one, it wouldn't be for the power, but the fuel economy. If you're already having doubts, get a more powerful engine.
