BMW traditionally does a new model every 7 years, and a facelift after 4 years. That would place the facelift at September 2007 as a 2008 model year vehicle. However, there have been some unsubstantiated rumors floating around of something happening as early as March of 2006.

The 7 is getting markedly cleaned up for the coming year (07); I'd assume the 5 is next.

When the E60 first hit the streets its looks were very controversial, now its being copied by other manufactures. It probably should run the standard four years.

Good one. I had that experience too. I had read several of the pubs containing data about the 2006 cars. The pubs included data about the already out 2006 5-Series and 3-Series models and also indicated that the 545i would carry over as an 06 model. Little did they know. Information about the 550i was not available through the US auto mags until way close to the time the 550i's actually hit the shores. I found out later that the info had been available here. But, I don't mind; I did not want to wait another 6 months to get my car. Now, I know the game and am sure to get an early face-lifted model. By then, I am sure the 550i will have at least 420 HP.

Carpe diem, I say.

Buy it today, drive it today and (most importantly) enjoy it today.

There's always going to be something new (e.g. facelift, bigger engine, different options, new colors, etc.). If you end up waiting for the next "new" thing you'll end up waiting for the rest of your life.

Now, that would no fun, right?
