Did the I-drive updated your engine Oil ? Because after adding a quart for mine, it was not updated and currently it has 0 miles left for an oil change. Should i be worried ?

The oil change interval (as with the other service intervals) needs to be reset by the dealer. It's part of the CBS (condition based service) system and isn't able to detect that you added oil.

My original question to Jimbo is still out there -- did anyone receive a message from the car that it was a quart low or is everyone just checking the dipstick routinely?

My E39 M5 used much more oil than that in its early life, nowadays it seems fairly regulated but I would imagine uses at least a quart every 5,000 miles.

Seems an inherent thing with BMW engines?

The manual says top-up oil only when iDrive asks you to, do not top up even when the dipstick indicates low oil level. I topped-up one litre after around 8,000 Km (can't really remember though) after iDrive beeped.
