There is certainly truth in this statement, did the salesperson not provide a sales booklet laying out all the options? That's one of the first things my sales guy gave me.
What I have not heard from the OP is when was his car ordered. There was a window when the LCI E60 was introduced where the SAT was not yet available. Perhaps his order was placed during that time frame? The 2008 sales booklet I have shows the option but it is clearly marked as not available until June 2007 production.

My son has the 335i sport with the paddles and they are important for him. I don't have the sport package on my 550i and love the softer feel of the car. That being said, the SAT is a must have if you purchased the sport package after June 07. The SAT and paddle shifters should be part of the sport package, imo, why would anyone knowingly fork out over $4k extra and not get the SAT/paddles for $500?

given the ever increasing amount of options and features in today's modern cars, it's difficult to keep up with all the technical details - even for a salesperson. And no, I'm not a car salesperson.
Thats their JOB... they get paied to do that. Its their responsibility. People need to own up to things. Be responsible at least for what you SHOULD be responsible for. If I told my manager... "oh theres too much technology in the part we're making I cant keep up with the changes..." I would be out of a job.

Granted that your salesperson should have been better informed and have relayed that information to you during the purchasing process - you're slightly in the fault for not having done your research. To play devil's advocate, given the ever increasing amount of options and features in today's modern cars, it's difficult to keep up with all the technical details - even for a salesperson. And no, I'm not a car salesperson.

Are you frigging kidding me, this salesidiot dosen't work for Carmax, he sells one brand of car with features many of which are redundant across the product line. If there are people like some of us who are consumers of the product, who make the effort to educate ourselves about the cars we drive, is it too much to ask that this idiot has enough pride to know his own product. I bet you his boss would'nt buy this ".....difficult to keep up with all the technical details..." bullcrap either.

Ya I dont disagree that the buyer should have done their home work... but the salesman or women should know their product inside out. Yes, there are bad days... but we all know... there are more salesman that truly dont know their products than there are those that do.
Guys, we are talking about a $ 500, here in europe a $ 200 feature - in my eyes, the sales guy just rushed the deal by saying that SAT does not make a difference because he knew that if he said it made a difference, aznunknownx would insist on test driving a car with SAT, and he also knew that there were no e60s available with SAT at that time, and that test driving one would push his deal by atleast couple of weeks if not a month. From this point of view, I think he had definite enough motivation not to tell aznunknownx that SAT made a difference. Alone because of this, I would freak out and talk to a GM there...
ps. you can not expect buyers to do the homework that we here have done, or do - when my dad bought his e70 x5, he would have bought extras that the sales guy was going to talk him into but i did my part in choosing what he should buy because i knew his wishes and requirements... difference is: i cared, the sales guy just did his job...

I have emailed the sales agent responsible for the deal. I will post up news of what's happening soon... Hopefully this can become a happy ending without too much $$ lost
