Has anyone experienced a problem with the Auto function not illuminating the headlamps and dash as dusk approaches and you need the lights? Mine lately isn't coming on when needed, and I'll report it to the dealer when I go in for my oil change.

I've had the opposite problem...my lights stay on all the time. The RLS needs to be adjusted..basically they can adjust the sensitivity. Of course mine worked a whole 5 minutes after they adjusted it! I'll wait to bring it in.

Definitely going to have to have the sensor adjusted... With auto not working adequately, this morning I managed to leave my light switch in the ON position all day at the airport ... parking lights on the whole time. Fortunately the battery withstood it and it started up fine after about 9 hours.

doesn't BMW shut off the lights after a certain time when left in the "ON" position? Wouldn't that be a logical solution?
A buddy's E500 (ironically it was Daimler Chrysler) didn't shut off the parking lights and after 2 hours the battery was dead. Meanwhile Chrysler minivans turn off the lights regardless of the situation after 15 minutes idle

The lights were still on, front rear and instrument cluster, all day as near as I know. I guess it's possible that they turned themselves off at some point, then back on as I approached with the CA fob in my pocket ??! I have now way of knowing that for sure, since I was about 40' away as I approached when I could first see the tail lights and that they were on.

I thought, someplace, I read this this is adjustable.

True, or an illusion or Old Timer's Disease?

the sensor is adjustable, but AFAIK it requires a trip to the BMW service dept....
