No disrespect intended, but there is absolutely no way you are getting 37 mpg in a 535 unless you are going downhill most of the time for those 37 miles.

The 535 is amazing fuel efficient if you are gentle on the gas. Remember those turbos just suck gas when the car is floored but it is so much fun : I am a bit of a lead foot and in mixture of stop and go in town commuting and highway driving for errands I get about 20 mpg. These days in a mixture of most rush hour highway commutes and driving errands I get around 22.8 mpg. On highway trips I have gotten close to 28 or more mpg.

Thanks for the replies guys. So what about the 550i? Is it going to have a big difference in mpg? I will probably be driving 50/50 city and highway!!

To tuffluck: After checking actuals for a few months and realizing they are virtually identical I just use the iDrive now.

To jmsod: This best ever trip was recorded after an iDrive reset from a flying start (already at 110km/hr) on a 60km trip on a perfectly flat piece of highway. As a result of the flying start, there was no loss due to accelerating to 110. There was no wind.
My daughter and I had decided to see if we could drive at a set speed with no braking to break our retired 325i record we set in 2005. (We couldn't break it).
Because it was a challenge, I didn't brake, never touched the cruise and kept the speed low. The car was empty with a low fuel tank.
My normal mileage with no special conditions on the highway is always between 30 and 33 mpg.
BTW, I have found that travelling 10 mph more will greatly impact the mpg. For my car, travelling at 120 km/hr (75mph) will drop my mileage to 26-28 mpg.
