How is the mpg with you guys 535i? Im looking at getting it in the next couple of months but is it a gas guzler? I was thinking of getting the 528i but then wanted more power so i thought id check out the 535i. How big of a difference would it be? The guys with the 550i can list there mpgs aswell, thanks!!

My '08 535i gets about 25 mpg....according to the computer. I think the gain in power compared to the savings in mpg would make the 535i a much better choice.

I got about 22 mpg all driving combined for the 40K+ that I had my 535i with manual transmission. About 60% of my driving was highway and most of my driving was pretty spirited.
I think the 535 is pretty fuel efficient given it's performance.

I have an auto and according to the computer, I'm getting 20.8 mpg. I would say my driving has been 70/30 (highway/city).

I have had a 2008 335i and now a 2009 535i and in mixed driving I get around 20-21 MPG. You can get high 20's if you drive 75 MPH on a freeway or might even higher.

For me it's less about the mpg and more about the driving cruising range. If I drive gently on a highway trip I can manage about 400 miles before needing to find a gas station. But in town or on short trips or if I drive with gusto ... my gas trips are more frequent. If only the new 5'er had a larger tank (18g).

Interesting, these numbers seem to be pretty close to what I am getting with my 528i...

20-22 with 60%+ highway driving is not that good, though. 20ish sounds good, but a 60/40+ mix is a lot of highway driving. you can't just look at the 20-22 number, you have to look at the mix of driving.

i test drove a 550i this week and it was showing an average of 10.3mpg in a 20/80 highway/city mix in downtown dallas.

in the same 20/80 mix my car (07 530i) gets about 16mpg. i get about 29mpg on the highway though.

my friend has a 650i (virtually the same car as the 550i in terms of weight/engine) and drives 80/20 highway/city and gets 18mpg. i think you could safely say a 550i in a nearly all-city situation would get about 12mpg. sounds right, too, since the M5 owners in the pure city get somewhere around 8mpg.

since the 530i gets about 16mpg, i would expect the 535i in a nearly all-city situation to get between the 550i and 530i, between 12-16mpg. if you're driving the 70/30 mix like the guys above, 20ish is probably what you get. but if you take a trip into the city one day, don't start thinking your car is broken if you only manage 15mpg or so. E60s get remarkably low mpg in the city.

I average about 18mpg with a 80% city 20%highway. I drove to miami this summer though and I was averaging 480 miles on the tank with the cruise control set at 78. On the way back with the ac on I was averaging around 440. I have a 2006 530i
