If it's option 205 then it should be the new 'joystick' style. To confirm, I have seen a new 520d with the new 'joystick' style at my local dealers, so it's definitely being fitted to this model with the 177hp engine (the LCI models with the 'old' 163hp engine get the old style shifter).
Thanks, but how do I know if I am getting the new 177bhp engine, not the 163bhp ?, other than taking the salemans word for it ?

That's simple. If he's told you ot's the 177hp model and it isn't, simply reject the car.

The 177hp model is a completely different vehicle. In addition to the new style shifter, it has cruise control with brake function (the 163hp models have conventional cruise control which isn't as good), not to mention around 5mpg better fuel consumption and much lower emissions.

DO NOT under any circumstances accept a 163hp model unless that is what you have been told it is and, as a result, you are getting a big discount as it is now a discontinued model. I am fearful that as you are taking a vehicle from 'stock' it will be an unsold 163hp model, so don't wait for it to arrive, get it in writing now and make it clear that you will reject it if it's a 163hp 'old' model.

Well all thanks for the feedback on my initial query.

Collecting the new car this Thursday - will be sorry to retire the 6 cylinder petrol 520i but looking forward to the torque and extra power of the 520d.

Just collected the new arrival from the dealer today.

Amazing the improvement in pickup with the 520d compared with the 520 petrol.

And the good news is that the 520d does come with the new gear stick !.

Will post pics later.... gotta drive ... gotta drive .... gotta drive ....
