2006 550i Advice
Hello Fellow Members,
This information is great. I have an '06 550i with 127k miles and a few questions, if you would be nice enough to educate me:
1. How can you tell if you have an oil leak, like the valve cover leak?
2. After the dealer changed my motor oil, I noticed oil spilt/sprayed over the right side of the motor, sort of where the oil dip stick receiver points. I cleaned it well about 2 weeks ago. No sign of any oil since then. (And no liquids on the garage floor, except AC water.) Anyone care to hazard a guess on the source of the oil? I'm not a mechanic, but I'm thinking the tech over-filled and somehow it was removed via the dip sick hole.
I love this car. Looks and runs like a champ! I change oil every 7k. Any advice on what to look for in the way of leaks for preventative maintenance and how to spot them before it becomes critical. I plan to keep the car for another 5 yrs. I'm hesitant to rely solely on I-Drive maintenance minder, given the factory has slanted that system to suit it low cost maintenance mantra.
Thx for your help!

I've heard (I have the same car, 117k) that leaks can come from the valve covers, timing chain cover, and the alternator areas, as far as oil is concerned.
No white smoke from exahust on yours? If I'm stuck in a drive through, or at a long traffic light, I get smoke on takeoff. I hate it and its an expensive fix. Otherwise I love the car.

I have an 06 550i but it has no dipstick. Are you in the States or elsewhere? I suspect the difference could also be manufacture date related.
No leaks apparent yet, but only 75k miles so far. Love this vehicle as well, especially the smooth shifting 6sp manual, power, refinement and handling. Head and shoulders above my prior two cars, both Benz's.
