Hi All,
I've got a 2006 535d M Sport (UK Right hand Drive). I've got a Servotronic Failure fault and the steering is heavy and unassisted. My local BMW Independent has been trying to diagnose the root cause for a few weeks now and is at a loss. The following have been replaced yet the issue still persists.
Any other suggestions on things they could check?

- Hydraulic Steering pump replaced.
- Solenoid replaced with (OEM non-BMW).
- Electronic Control Unit (replaced with used one...fixed the issue until car was restarted then fault came back).
- Checked the wiring loom for shorts, this checks out fine.
Any other suggestions on things they could check?

Looks like you've done everything that you should have done to fix this issue. Most of the time it's either the sensor or the wiring. Once all the parts were replaced programming and coding with a calibration should have been done and that's it.

Steering calibration didn’t solve the issue.
They tried to update the software. The first attempt to program it failed and it suggested carrying out a battery reset before a 2nd attempt. A battery reset is basically disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes or more. So they did this but the 2nd attempt also failed and now there is a permanent fault code stored in the DSC for "ECU Internal Fault".
Any suggestions?

Is this at the dealership? Seems like they are clueless and now damaged the DSC. Maybe just flashing the DSC will get it back working but they don't have the tools for that. Also did they check the ZGM flexrays to ensure the port was not closed. Probably something they can't do at the dealer level. I would also suggest checking the SZL as that may be the cause of everything. If proper Diag was done a wiring was deemed good the SZL would be my guess if the servo is indeed good

No this is at a bmw independent specialist.
I’ve got the car back, they ran out of ideas. Power steering still doesn’t work, but there are no faults on the dash anymore. Haven’t got a code reader to read the codes.
