Sorry about your problems. It sounds like your ingenuity got you out from under a hefty maintenance bill.

What we all should take from this story is simply be careful about carrying liquids in the trunk. That's all.

Its troubling that such a reality exists.

Scenario1: you go grocery shopping and buy a 2.5 gallon jug of water. The spigot leaks. The water will pool in the wheel well, shorting out the units.

Scenario2: Its summer and you decide to take the family out on a day trip to a mountain park. You load up the cooler with ice, pack the kids up, and take a drive. Someone forgets to tighten the drain. Water leaks, pools down in the well, and now your Beemer's gone.

Granted both scenarios occur due to 'negligence'. However, both are quite plausible as the trunk historically has been a fairly bulletproof area for carrying things. My suggestion to all is to move the units to a better location (the wire looms are quite lengthy) if for no other reason than peace of mind.

The "rattle when sunroof opened' caught my attention. I have the same, intermittant issue. The dealer thinks I'm crazy. Did you find anything out? Sunroof alignment issue maybe?

Thanks

Hey Sailcat,

I wasn't able to have it looked at after the time spent diagnosing the liquid-logged Micro Power Module. As soon as I'm able to have it looked at I'll post details. Like yours, it's an intermittant problem.
