I agree with 95% of Rodney's post - except the A/C and the gas nozzle issue, which I'm sure can be a problem but just hasn't affected me here in NYC. My car is garaged however, so the A/C has a lot less work to do when I first get in, despite NY's sultry 90 degree 98% humidity summer weather. My addition to that list would be my dislike of the turning signal control. I just find it awkward compared with a standard mechanical, locking arm. By operating as a toggle you can't feel whether it is in position or not, and have to rely on hearing the audible click of the signal, which is very low with A/C blasting or radio on. Plus, when deactivating the signal (such as after a lane change) I find half the time I wind up signaling the opposite direction. Plus the lever is a bit high. On other cars I now reach for the cruise control to signal after driving my 545i! Not a major issue, and certainly a tiny inconvenience compared to the good points. But a strange design choice for such an otherwise well thought out car.
And by the way, the trunk IS huge! We just had a baby and travel out to the Hamptons with her and our baby nurse and load the thing to the hilt and have yet to have any storage issues.
I'll let you know whether I forgive my dealer for giving me a *@!# Corolla loaner when I find out whether they're going to give me fresh Dunlop runflats at my 12,000 mile oil/filter change (only about 7,000 on the summer tires, and they are a little louder).

If I had known they would be replaced, I would have treated them worse!
Good job.
Sounds like you have a unique situation that BMW understands.
