What is your basis for this statement...?
from my 25 years of driving
and from all the people that fixs cars at workshops.
I have seen so many F#@ked up engines.
last week there was a guy driving a e60 and he never changed the oil for 150000km and the car engine was shaking and sound ed very ruff.

I agree.

7.5K miles sounds about the right time to change for normal use.
15K miles interval is BMW's way to reduce cost of included "maintenance warranty".
Is it okay for engine, I probably think so if you drive normally while topping off every now and then.
Is it close to border line of oil's shear. Probably so.

I'm a DIY guy anyway, I love doing it, I could use much better quality oil and it's cheaper too
+1 if you drive normal then that OK but if you drive it hard like me rev to 6300rpm then not OK

I would tend to agree as well. If you drive on the harder/aggressive side, heavy traffic, or dusty roads...more frequent would be good. But for me, 90% of my miles are 1 hour 80mph stints on the Interstate twice a day, 5 days a week...so I think 15Kmiles is fine for my car.

I've had my e60 since December 30, 2007. Currently not even at 5K (4846 to be exact) miles. Is there also a time frame along with the number of miles recc'd by BMW to get an oil change? If it's 15K miles, I would think one year as well? Or does BMW only cover an oil change at 15K miles, no matter how long it takes you to get there? (I do plan on changing my oil at 7500 miles, at my own expense/time)

***edit: My car is leased. Leased or not I still want to have optimal performance from my e60 as well as keep it in great condition for the next person who drives this car when I return it.

15K or yearly is what I have been told.
