LOL. I feel you, there's nothing quite like fresh oil inside your car. You should send the oil in to get analyzed to see what's in it.

ahhhhhhhh............8.5 qts of virgin syntec oil, its one of the simple pleasures of life
and to top it off a new oil filter, thats like putting on a pair of tighty-whitey fresh out of the dryer and still warm

The color difference is dramatic, but the only way to know if the old oil has any life left in it is sending it to Blackstone. I have 1K miles left on my Mobil 1 0/40 before I'm going to change it and have Blackstone tell me how things look. I'm really looking forward to it - should be interesting.

Also, may I ask how much does Blackstone charge and how do you ship it to them?

Metal deposits etc. Basically they tell you if the oil is still usable or not.

Whats the total miles you put on your Mobil 1. Please post your analysis when you get it back

The test kit is free (http://www.blackstone-labs.com/free_test_kit.html), and they charge US$22.50 for the analysis.
Read through their FAQ - they're a bunch of loons, but in a good way: http://www.blackstone-labs.com/faq_gas.html

My first oil change was at 1200 then followed at 5k and at 10k. I only plan doing 5k intervals since i'm keeping the car for awhile.

black oil isnt always bad. Most of the blackstone reports ive done in the past always came back with plrenty of life left. oil turns color within the first hundred miles of use, so its a bad indicator of quality.
