I purchased 08 550 with 28k miles in aug/2010 for about 41.5k drive out and decided to sell march/2011 with 39k miles and carmax/dealer wanted to offer me 32k...9.5k deprecation in 6 months. I said forget it and just keeping it.

On the other side of the coin - because of the huge depreciation, I'm able to buy a $56K car for less than $18K after 5 years. I always bought 4 to 5 year old Merc or BMW cars for less than 35 to 40% of the original price.
