My 2005 545I has only 41K and is a summer only car and they offered me 18k on a trade in. Does that sound right. Told me even though the cars ready to put on the lot and needs nothing the colors not that popular. Everywhere I go people comment on the car and it's color! Are they for real?

I would say they are for real... I bought an 04 545i loaded for $17+k... for a trade in they have to leave a bit of room to make a little money or its not worth it to them... and mine is black with the auburn interior.

Try Carmax.

Thinking about trading my '06 550 with almost 70K miles in for an '08...took it to Carmax and was appraised for $ 21,500 which was the exact KBB's good trade in price.

Of course a sales person is going to downplay and low-ball your trade. Just as quickly they'd promote and hi-ball the same car when they are trying to resell it ... it's all about that seller buyer dance. You're likely to get a better price AND sell a clean pre-owned car like yours on your own. Remember. most dealers typically reap higher profits on the sale of used car trades than they do from selling "some" new cars.

Luigi is right - consider it the cost for the "convenience" of having the stealer sell the car for you. They rip you off with the low trade-in value.

You will likely get more if you sell it on your own.

Also, I heard somewhere that the most popular colors for BMW were black or silver?

It's fair if not high imho. I sold my 05 545i last yr with 50k miles, fully loaded for $17,400

sounds reasonable

That's about right. If timing is tight for you push them for an extra $1k and then take it. Otherwise I'd trade it in at Carmax (they give better trade in values) or do a private sell (this is your best bet for highest selling price).

Good luck! What are you getting next?

That sounds about right...I picked my 06 with a few thousand more miles for $18,000 not too long ago.

Like the others have said, Carmax is your best option. Good luck!

I would have thought at least 20k. I save on the sales tax which is about a grand but I guess since I haven't traded in a while I didn't realive how much depreciation there is.
