I have to agree with uglybear, life is too short. I'm thinking the Honda Civic Hybrid forum can't be that much fun, like their cars.
Do they get better mileage, are they cheaper to operate than an E60, you bet. I am sure they are wonderful cars, they are just not for all of us.

Concerning a 2004 E60 with a 120,000 miles, I would not buy it for $26k without some kind of warranty. I don't know about the transmission, but I don't think the engine should have any trouble with that number of miles. Your worry is all the gizmos. My .02

I think you are going to wrong direction. For your high mile commute, you should be looking at a low mile car to begin with. Speaking of that, I have a 05 with 17K if you are interested .
Test drove a CLS55 the other day and love it, I am afraid I can't hold it any longer...
Get something with low to moderate mileage for sure. Decide on your budget and some basic criteria - like 4 doors, etc., Then look at what you can get with 50,000 miles or less on it for "X" dollars...and it doesn't need to be a boring car...just one that won't cost a fortune in repairs.

Just my 2 cents..

Civic and Prius are CHEAP boxes with horrible seats, cheap plastic, road noise and bad sound systems. Life is too short to suffer if you can afford a decent car.
