04 545 Lease up: 08 535 or 550?
#1
I've been away for a while. I'm sure this has been discussed. What's the genereal consensus? I'm guessing the 535 is about as fast as my 545, but slower than the 550. Is that true? Is the difference between the 535 and 550 enough to warrant the 10k?
Also, I ditched my runflats for some nice michelins. Do the new runflats still suck?
Thanks in advance.

My Ride: 2010 M5 alpine white, black full leather, etc.
After the 04 rft recall, runflats never gave me any more trouble. In order to pick between the turbo-6 or the 8, take a test drive.
My vote is nevertheless with the 550i beast. Nothing compares.
Ciao for now

I'll def test drive. I just like to make sure I do my homework before I ever set foot in the showroom. Noboby does their homework like this board, so I wanted to check here first.

If money is an issue then pick up a 535i...
I test drove both back to back and money wasn't an issue so 550i was an easy choice... like the old saying goes "there is no replacement for displacement" though im sure a chipped 535i will out run a 550i

I came across this if it helps:

I have an '08 528i, but if I were in your shoes, and money isn't an issue, I'd get the 550i. I would want the sport package and to retrofit an M Kit and the 167 wheels if I got the 535i, so why not get that beast of an 8 in the meantime. I'd also have some small concerns that the new twin turbo could use a year or so to work out any wrinkles. Either way, it's a nice choice.....Good luck

Yes a chipped 535 will be faster than the 550 to some point. But if you want to keep the engine / car stock go with the 550. The extra 10K gets you more than just the engine.

I would recommend you go for the v8 being that its been tried and tested now since 06 compared to the dual turbo 535i....yes it is under warranty but compounded with the fact that you just cant beat the torgue of a v8 or the growl for that matter i think you'll miss the extra 2 cylinder if you decide to downgrade.
Either way you're getting one heck of a car!!

Test drove both today and its all about the 550 for me.
For what its worth, I really thought I wanted to make a change so I drove everything under the sun, Lexus, MB, the new Jag, X5, Inifiniti, you name it. Everytime I would get back in my car and like it better than what I just drove. So its the new 550, with a few new options that I didn't get last time: ventilated seats, comfort seats, Ipod integration, etc.
Pretty much impossible to beat the e60.
