I'm new to the board and hoping that one of you may be able to help with this problem.
I've owned my 04 530I for 5 years now and have put over 130,000 miles on it with out having any mechical issues. This morning I went out to start it and it started running real rough. The engine would surge up and down and when I would goose it to see if it would clean it out, it would blow moisture out of the pipe. It smelled like it was flooded. I felt like it may be a bad coil pack but really have no idea and hate to invest in parts that don't fix the problem.
Here's the weird thing, The check engine light didn't come on. I owned a E39, 540I and anytime the engine wasn't running right, the check engine light would come on.

im not a genius or know a lot but since no one else has tried to help you maybe it could be something as simple as maybe someone filled it with 87 octane or something that wasnt 91 or above. Has it continued to run bad?

Maybe the MAF (mass air flow) sensor?

You can clean it and see if it helps. Probably needs done anyway.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot before I start forking money out. Come to think of it, my 540I did this and I had to replace the MAF.
