"The CDC connector has power and fibre cables. You need to separate them. There is a small tab on the connector that must be pulled out with a small screwdriver. The fibre optic plug can be pulled out as a complete unit. Take care to read Dension's instructions as well. Note the direction arrows on the fibre optic plug"

Can someone illustrate this? I am unable to to this.

1st of all to the forum!

Have you read the whole thread from the start? Illustrated on post #1 pic #4-9 ... when you have CD Changer you find that plugged into the side of the Changer box (the only plug actually) ... that plug is basically a combo of 2 plug the outside (bigger) plug hold the power lead (+ & -) and the smaller hold the MOST fiber optic cable (the green thick & the black wrapper in the illustrated pic).

If you don't have CD Changer then it's a completely different story.

Thanks. I got it now, but I am having problems with getting sound from the gateway. It accepts charging, and the changer/cd.player works fine.

Where did you guys place the unit when you have a CDC installed? I can't fit it inside with the CDC. Is it room there?

Thanks for the welcome

Thanks! These DIY instructions worked like a charm for me. I really love the Gateway in my car; I replaced the OEM iPod interface with it.

im also wondering if maybe i had the CD-chager and the dealer removed it??? why run the cable without the unit unless its for future mods... i dunno

[EDIT]
I guess i got the answers i needed above. it just took me a while to write this up so there was a delay on my part

My apologies, but I am not finding the answer to your question in the posts above. My E60 does not have the CD Changer installed but the dealer is telling me they will go ahead and program the computer to recognize it when I complete the install. Is the existing cable useable?

You have to have the car coded for MP3 for what purpose? To play MP3 CD or to have the Dension display text?
If you coded the Dension in the car for OEM iPod adapter (Yes, GW500 will be recognized as OEM iPod module) all will be good.
Check w/ nigxdoof, Mike's car is early built and his in-dash CD isn't MP3 capable but his GW500 worked as it should be.

So, no need to trick the iDrive by enabling MP3 then CD Changer and do swap in the Dension, too many steps.
