Replaced thermostat and the increaed emissions light went out. Checked the engines and running at correct temp. No more stuttering.

After you replace the thermostat how do u run the automatic bleed program to bleed the system after you refill it with the new coolant? Or is this not necessary? Because I know that air bubbles can cause over heating

what i did was this and no problems since:

after re-assembling the parts, i filled expansion tank with a 50/50 pre-mixed antifreeze, with engine off. what i noticed is the coolant level guide would slowly go back down as the coolant flowed to fill the void in the engine and/or radiator. i stopped filling as soon as the level stopped sinking. i then warmed up the engine (now would also be a good time to check for leaks). as soon as the engine was warm, i opened expansion tank and topped off with coolant.

WARNING! do this only when engine is cold!
i just replaced my coolant and while i was at it i also removed and inspected my thermostat. you wouldn't believe how simple it is to r&r. this is what you do: disconnect the temp. sensor, then unclip and disconnect the return hose (central hose leading to bottom half of radiator to the left-passenger side). remove 3 (10mm) bolts that hold thermostat to waterpump assy and you're done! the thermostat is built into its housing; this explains why our thermostat cost $140!!

We offer great OBD scanners at very low prices. You can choose the BMW option in Professional mode and it will not only give you a P-code but the interpretation and will support live data reading. They are a must have for every car owner.
