The reason why the headlight cable is not removed is because of 2 things.

1. if you forget then you will have to remove the assembly all over again to plug it in.

2. There is a trick to removing them. On the big connector you must slide the sleeve to one side until it releases. On the small connector you have to squeeze the tang to remove it.

Make sure to test the headlight before you reinstall the assembly back in the car.
Regarding your 2): Big and small connector? I only see one connector in the guide.

Is there any worry about the headlight not being properly aligned if you remove it?

BEDTIME!!!
great post, wish i had found this post first.
had a difficult time removing the headlight unit.
See now that if i had removed the top five screws for the bumper, i would have had an easier time removing the headlights.
Great pics easy to follow.

Any suggestions on how to view this thread properly as the images on the first page are so massive that I can't actually read the text all the way across and also can't see the images fully as they are just too large...must be my crap monitor .

Most browsers can zoom out: Ctrl key and "-" key. The text will be very small, but at least you can see the pics. Zoom back in: ctrl and "+"

You don't need to remove the rubber trim or unscrew the front bumper to remove the headlights. I have removed mine 1000's times while doing different mods.
