in the morning im going to have a good look, and if no joy im going to tyr to hire a fibrescope or small endoscope, and have a look. better to be safe than sorry.
i bet it turns up in my pocket or something

still its not the end of the world.
and when done ill have peice of mind again.
Sorry to hear that, but I am sure you work it out.
So your flaps were different ha? I know cars without a particle filter have different flaps.
Do you have one?

Hi Dr Dave,

Did something similar on an old petrol engine and managed to drop a Webber DCOE jet into the inlet manifold.

Got it out by using a vacuum cleaner. Taped up the nozzle to each inlet and then switched on for a minute at a time.

Got the jet out on the second go.

Might be worth a try if you think its in the inlet tract.

Regards

How is it going Dr Dave?

Those swirl flaps are considered as an "old, not reinforced" model, and I bet their axels are 4mm diameter.
Were the flaps same kind in both cars? If yes, then all the work you have done is worth the efforts and much much more !

Excellent 'How-to' - very well written, with excellent supporting pictures. Should help others on here follow suite and remove their flaps - just glad I don't have the hassle as mine doesn't have them!

ok, an update.....

i hired a fibrescope (endoscope) and went hunting...

i searched every where i got right in the inlet manifold and could not see a thing (nice and clean in there )
so i bought a new set of rubber gasket/washers and carried on with the mod.
i removed the swirl flaps and one of them was VERY loose (cly no 5) so thank god i did this.
here they are removed

and here are the "flaps"

all back together and all good, nice and quiet with no apparent difference.
still dont know where that dam washer went

Big applause to you!
I bet you are quite satisfied and maybe exhausted too after this episode. And I mean ALL the episode from pondering this thing months ago all the way up to this point (with one lost washer )!

You should take a beer or two now !
