Thanks again for your DIY and TIP for removing the mirror from windshield.
I didn't damaged the windshield !
Great to hear! Good luck with your harness install. Its somewhat surprising that it was not pre-wired. These BMWs can be confusing sometimes. Thank goodness for all the great info in these forums.

Cheers.

Georgieb,

This is an absolutely excellent write up and how to guide on installing the Homelink mirror.

Before I was even aware of this forum I was attempting to install the mirror on my own. Imagine my dismay when I took off my mirror and found only 2 wires extending out from my BMW. After much trial error, searching on the web, I finally said eff it and took my car to the dealer to get it changed out.

After 3 days of changing it my mirror stopped working entirely. So another trip back to the dealer, the wiring had come loose and they had to re-wire it entirely.

After 3 days I walked back to my car and to my dismay found a gigantic crack down my entire windshield. Thankfully I had a friend who worked at BMW and he was able to get the dealer to replace the entire windshield for me for free .

If only I had access to this forum and your detailed instructions I would've been successful instead of wasting so much time travelling to dealer and back.

Good job man.

pandafit,
Thank you for the kind words. Just as you've found my information helpful, others have provided similar information to me which allowed for many successful mods on my E60. These forums are truly a wonderful resource.

Cheers!

Has anyone done a rear view mirror retrofit with auto dim and homelink on a E60 LCI? Do I need a retrofit harness and do I need any coding done? All I want is the interior rearview mirror, not the side ones. All help is greatly appreciated.
