Did you install the concealed display so it would be more difficult to see from a driver behind you? I am thinking of mounting just to the left of the visor with no consealed display...what do you think?

I promise not to cry...maybe just a little sigh

I installed the concealed display primarily because it makes it easy to quickly look down slightly from you normal driving line-of-sight when you get a bogey, and the mute button is in easy reach, but a secondary benefit certainly is if a cop is behind you, he's less likely to notice the V1 since the main unit is unlit with the concealed display. If you get pulled over (I did last week--but no speeding ticket ) you can quickly unplug the concealed display and store it in the door storage compartment.

The issue I have with placing the V1 to the left of the rear view mirror is that it interferes with the driver's sun visor. I had the same setup as my 545i in my last car, and when I got my 545i, I tried using just the main unit mounted to the left of the rear view mirror, but didn't like the way I couldn't move the driver's visor much past the fully vertical position (for instance when at a stop light with the sun straight ahead in the late afternoon).

Stream (or anybody else that has a hardwired radar detector) - I have my V1 hardwired the other day...I love it! One question though...the power to it does not go off when the car is turned off - you must manually turn off the radar detector. Has anybody experienced this?

They didn't hard wire it to a switched power source. I can't believe they would do it that way--I'd have them fix it--on their nickel.

He fixed it today...turns out it blew #63 fuse (same as homelink) hooking it up the first time. Now the fuse is replaced, and it only turns on when the car is on!

Good news. I believe the instructions in this thread tap into the sunroof power.

I have planned on hardwiring my V1 to the fuse box, but BMWNA tells me I will likely run into problems with warranty if I have any electrical issues in the future. Has anybody run into any problems with their hardwired radar detector? Has anybody been given other info regarding voiding the warranty from their dealer?

Thanks,

No problem here.
My V1 was hardwired/connected by my BMW dealer.

You know you can ditch that fat cord that came with it and cut up any telephone wire to use so you can get the X50 up at the top. It's more discreet and cleaner looking in my opinion.....That way everyone won't see that you have one of the best radar detectors in your car...There is only about 2 inches of wire exposed in my setup.
