Ask any prostitute, mechanic, gynecologist, urologist, or chemist why one should not use vaseline on rubber products.

Other thread here erroneously recommends it's use.

Also, be careful spraying silicone lubricant on door seals. Some types contain acetone as a solvent which will discolor or dissolve many plastics. Acetone may also damage some paints. I ruined the drivers-side plastic front entrance cover on my 525xi with CRC heavy-duty spray silicone.
