You can find many second hand diamond keys for sale on a well known website . You can also buy new (non-genuine) blade and shell for the secondhand electronics.

So it appears that there is a viable way of getting another key quite cheaply.

I understand the remote bit can be self-programmed, and the immobiliser bit needs a diagnostic machine to program e.g BMW dealer / Quality auto locksmith.

So what is the deal, what has the reception been like from a BMW dealer to re-code a secondhand key, are they ok with this?

What are people being quoted for a new genuine BMW key (UK) please from a dealer?

Got same problem with needing additional key and don't want to have to buy it from the dealer. Duplicate is stupid pricey from the dealer.
Why not get a BMW blank off Ebay, have it cut to duplicate your existing key, then take it to the dealer and asked for it to be reprogrammed? Say it just quit working and car is still under warranty.
