Great topic, donv.

Yes, a definitely must topic--probably my best. Oh well, new 545i owner; that's my excuse. Do you think I can find a lighter battery? And, if you were going to drill the frame, then where would you start? ~{;^)

P.S. It really is important to know how to find the battery--as you say--I think both seriously and jokingly.

DOn't know which battery u have in E60 but mine is a monster. Looks like the largest battery I have ever seen in a car. I have a similar sized (1100 CCA) in a GM product and was told it was the largest ever produced for a domestic car. I'm sure I am also paying a weight penalty.

Thanks cobradav. Maybe I'll weight it, but I'd bet it is a good one.

Finding the battery, although important to many, is not necessarily something most E60 owners will need to do.

Remember that there are battery terminals under the hood that you should use for jump-starting the car (or other cars).

Also, use caution around the battery since there is an explosive charge on the wire for the positive terminal that's used in an accident to disconnect things to help prevent a fire...

I knew about the terminals; the manual at least told me that. But, thanks much for your information, in general, and warning.

Yeah, back from when they still thought they were going to have LED taillamps.

From the US dealer training materials for E60:

Hopefully that will be something that shows up with the facelift that we can all retrofit onto older E60s.

Wait a minute... that says for the Adaptive brake lights... it says "under heavy braking OR when ABS is activated" the extra ligths will illuminate... but I thought we figured out that they dont turn on unless the ABS is activated... I've never seen them on under "only" heavy breaking...

Maybe I should add this to the list of differences in the "is the 6er just a 2-door version of the 5 series" thread in Other BMW Models.
