I want to look at my battery. The manual is no help. I know it's in the trunk. How do I get to it. Duh!

Keep looking. Remove trunk mat and look for spare tire. Look on your right hand side and you'll see the battery.

Remove the right trunk cover and you'll see the battery. Take out the trunk bottom cover/carpet, then turn the black plastic screws on the side cover one quarter turn counterclockwise to release the cover and then pull the cover out. The battery is right there.

I think this is an important piece of info every e60 owner should know.
Great topic, donv.

P.S. It really is important to know how to find the battery--as you say--I think both seriously and jokingly.
DOn't know which battery u have in E60 but mine is a monster. Looks like the largest battery I have ever seen in a car. I have a similar sized (1100 CCA) in a GM product and was told it was the largest ever produced for a domestic car. I'm sure I am also paying a weight penalty.
Finding the battery, although important to many, is not necessarily something most E60 owners will need to do.
Remember that there are battery terminals under the hood that you should use for jump-starting the car (or other cars).
Also, use caution around the battery since there is an explosive charge on the wire for the positive terminal that's used in an accident to disconnect things to help prevent a fire...
Yep, similar explosive charge we use on solid booster to destroy in-flight (Shuttle, Delta, Atlas, etc), perhaps slightly less powerful
