My Ride: 2010 550i M Sport Package - Alpine White/Blk Nasca Leather, Premium hi-fi system, Sat Radio, Nav, Cold Weather Package, Value Package, Shift Paddles, Comfort Access keyless entry, Power rear Sunshade, Front Ventilated seats, Split fold-down rear seats, Heated rear seats, Automatic high beams
The filter is a little tricky. You need a 6mm hex socket and a 22 or 24mm wrench, I can't remember which. The 6mm socket unscrews a drain plug in the bottom of the filter housing. You need the wrench to hold the molded nut head so you can remove the drain plug. If you just use the 6mm hex socket, you will loosen the whole housing and oil will go everywhere.
I had 3645 miles on mine. I drained 9 quarts of oil out of the pan, I put back 8.5 quarts.
So this would let me to beleive that it was overfilled from factory or the oil started to multiply/grow
