I'm wondering if these are the 2 fiber optic lines that I'm missing b/c I can't see anything with a white cover. These have green cables from as shown in the picture.

Yes, but take care which is "IN" and which is "OUT"
On the connector for CDchanger should be marking with arrows.
When You disconnect the "bridge" which is used to connect optical cables and find one that lit, that one should be connected to "IN" (arrow facing to CD chager)

The thing is I don't have a cd changer in the car just the prewiring. So I don't think I even have the bridge you're talking about. Would I need to get that bridge from BMW or some other place or would it be provided with the ipod kit?

You need p/n 61138387214, it's the fiber housing plug that goes in together into the power housing.

So you break that loop connector (in circle at pic above) and insert the 2 in/out fiber into the new housing plug then that goes into bigger housing that has the power cable (the other plug on the lower right on the pic above that has red/brown) and together that whole big plug will connect into either the CD changer or iPod interface adapter.

I got in contact with BMW of Newport and they sent me the instructions via .pdf and it has the part overview. Since the fiber optic housing is listed I'm going to assume that it's included in the retrokit or should I ask for that also?

Yeah I saw that too, you mean part "H" from the pdf, right? But check w/ Garry to make sure since the pdf didn't provide p/n.

I do not have the CD changer, how would the installation in my car differ from your install?

Just want to follow up on this... did you ever get your iPod Retrofit Kit to work with iDrive???

I have the same issue, my car is a MY07 Sept 2006 Build car, it already plays MP3 CDs on the single disc drive, but after installing the iPod Retrofit Kit, the CD menu is still the same (as in single disc with NO sub-menu) nor will my 30GB iPod Video say "BMW" when connected.

schulrog,

My iPod retrofit kit does not work, there are NO CD sub menus to access my iPod, nor does my iPod video (nor my iTouch nor iPhone 3G) say BMW or connected.

My dealer insists that my car supports MP3 CDs even though I burned a disc with Windows Vista and it would not read. The dealership's tech did insert his own MP3 CD and it worked in my single disc bay and had the sub menus under the main CD Menu.

Please Help

Funny thing is most BMW dealerships think that an iDrive update enables mp3 retrofit. it doesn't. mp3 retrofit is an option in the system and just needs to be enabled and it'll work so in summary firmware update does NOT equal mp3 retrofit.

My (05/05 build) E60 is now mp3 enabled. I took it to the dealership on Saturday and told them my in dash cd player would not play mp3 cds. 6 hours later I got the car back and they said it is now mp3 enabled. They told me that one of the techs had an mp3 cd and it worked in the car. But just to make sure I had left an mp3 cd that I burned, also on Windows Vista, in the car and I tried it out before I left the dealership. Sure enough my mp3 cd also worked. They updated my iDrive also but it's still sluggish going through the menus but then again that could be due to the cold start as others have pointed out. Haven't decided on getting the ipod kit yet. Just wish I could get it into the arm rest so that it is easier to get to my iPhone.
