I?ve checked my 2 old PCs but none of them had a wire like this. The black connector is clear but the end are no connectors to click in the bmw connector box. This is so a simple wire but I cannot imagine where to get one in germany.

They are standard 0.1 inch modular PCB connectors; I'm sure there is a chain equivalent to Maplins or Radio Shack in Germany, or an electronics product supplier in your town. Try Yellow Pages under "electronic components" (or whatever that is in German), and make a couple of calls. I can post a better picture of the metal part of the connector, if it helps.

i got a wire(wif 2 black end connectors) and a set of contacts from an electrical shop.....snip off the black connector at one end, crimp the silver contacts onto the three wires(1 wire will go to the grey box connector,1 wire to the ground,1 wire to the lighting controller connector(black box)....just push 2 of the wires into the veh's respective black connector and it'll lock by itself....the other wire(connect to ground)....hope it makes it clearer...for a complete installation pls refer to previous posts.

Hi,

Would you please tell us how you had the switch illuminated?
Thanks

525i,

Hope my explanation is OK for you.
The part number of the switch, according to RealOEM is 61316921846

As for the illumination, it will probably be later in the year when I get round to doing that, if at all :'( but if you find the "Light Module" which I think is the black box in front of the grey door/boot opening box (Car Access System). Pin 43 of that plug is the illumination feed, and it should have a Grey wire with Red tracer. This wire goes elsewhere in the car as well, so I was just going to use a "Scotchlock" or similar insulation displacement parallel connector to connecto to pin 1 of the opening switch - it uses a common earth return, so only one more wire is needed. Don't consider just hooking the light up to 12 volts as it is an LED, and will go bang!

Have fun

In my original post, look at the second picture. You will see a black box next to the grey box. This is the lighting module. Pin 43 of the large plug that fits into this black box is the feed used to control switch lighting. The wire is Grey with a Red tracer. (With thanks to dlevi67 for this information!). Use a ScotchLok or similar to "piggy back" the wire to go to the release switch - see dlevi67's earlier post.

From Hobi's posts some time ago, there are obviously cars around with the wires already in the loom, that just need a switch fitted. Perhaps an attempt at BMW cost-cutting?? I don't know - it is a pretty trivial item that is great for convenience, and has been standard on all E61's AFAIK from day one.

Thanks to AlwynMike's great DIY I now have a working boot release switch (after about 2 years of waiting on Hobi!) - Excellent, many Thanks!

By happy coincidence I found that 2 of the parts from Bruce Miranda's 'Extended Footwell lights' Retrofit which I had ordered up are also good for this one:

1 x UNIVERSAL SOCKET HOUSING UNCODED 3 POL. 61138377072 = ?1.36
2 (or 3 if you want Illumination) x BUSHING CONTACT 0,2- 0,5MM? 61130005197 (N.B. these contacts come with a foot of black wire attached to each of of them) = ?4.38

The Socket Housing is a 3 pin connector which appears to be the actual BMW part to fit into the Boot release switch - like a glove.

The Bushing Contacts with their attatched wire push straight into the housing, then leaving only the other ends to have their connections made as applicable.

hi
i am trying to fit this internal boot release also. i have a 2003 520i e60 but after removing the trim and panels i have found that my wiring seems different than those in the earlier instructions. instead of a 40 pin plug (this photo is taken with my camera from the screen of the earlier posts)

Internal Remote Boot Release-cimg1330.jpg

mine has more like 80 pin connections. this is the only plug i could find in the area described.

Internal Remote Boot Release-cimg1334.jpg

after disconnecting and removing from the white plug housing this is what i found.

does anyone out there know, firstly have i disconnected the completely wrong plug or is mine just different. and secondly, how would i go about connecting the boot release to this connector?

i would really appreciate any help with this.

thanks for any help
