they havent been like this year round, but with the horrible weather and tons of salt dumped onto them, the plows and salt have taken a toll. So the potholes or should i call them -lengthy craters- are enormous and the worst i have ever seen in my life and during the rain they are just plain dangerous..

Some roads are bad. I've been lucky so far. Last winter, I got 2 bends on the same wheel. I drive a commerical vehicle daily and I remember where the potholes are. So when I drive my car, I know which lane to be to avoid them. Just drove on the Van Wyck this weekend. So glad there was traffic. Otherwise I'll be creating traffic. So many potholes.

It's called the worst winter every for Tri-State Area roads. Winter wheels are key when the roads are this bad. As for 40's, you can't.

Joe, try Falken 452's, 245/35/19 in front and 275/30/19 in the rear. That is the correct spec for that size wheel on your car. It should fit with no problem.
I actually had 285/30/20 in the rear and they fit, but would only rub if I had people in the back and hit a bump. I think you can go wider with 285/30/19 without any problems.
