Default How to: Replacing Rear Cigarette Lighter Light

My right rear cigarette lighter light was burned out. quick search shows that this is an issue for other people as well, but didn't find a well documented how-to so I decided to create one myself.

My car is a 2008 BMW 535xi Touring LCI. If yours isn't YMMV, but it should be similar, if not the same.

The bulb is a wedge type, 73. You can find them at any auto shop.

Use a pry tool or credit card or some other tool to pry off the facia for the cigarette lighters/heat seaters. Pry it from the bottom on the edges.

Unplug the harness for your cigarette lighter and light bulb. If you wanna make it easier to deal with unplug the seat heater harnesses as well.

Press and hold the lever on the lightbulb socket and pull out the lightbulb.

The lightbulb has a orange 'condom' on it. Remove it carefully as you will need to reuse it on your new bulb.

The lightbulb has a plastic socket. Pull the lightbulb while holding the socket, and it will come out.

Discard the old bulb and as they say, Installation is the reverse of removal. Might as well replace both while you're in there, especially if the package like mine had 2 bulbs.
