Hi Ron,

So you were able to replace your OEM HID's? To confirm your bulb type was D1S.

Do BMW Xenon D2-S 35W (63217160806) dim with age?

Or is it a ON then OUT situation?

My car was built in Oct 2004 and has 100k miles on it.

Mileage will vary I know but what are the operating principles for Xenon headlight bulbs?

All D2S and D1S bulbs are replaceable by the user, but without removing the entire headlight it is a little difficult to figure how to do it.

D2S bulbs are held in place by a metal clip you need to press to release.

D1S bulbs are held by a black plastic holder with a 45º turn. just grab the bulb grom the plastic holder and turn it 45º counter clockwise, it is a little tight but you don't have to be afraid as long as you are applying the force in the plastic holder and not the squared bulb igniter.

paran, it depends, i have seen xenon bulbs changing it color (not dimming) as time goes by, and others that stay like the first day.

I don't know about on/off.. mine were 9 shades of blue before they died (slight exaggeration)
