In case you want to plug the puddle lights to the lights under the door and you want to do this without cutting any of the original wires you need the following BMW parts for EACH side

1 x 61138377072
1 x 61136931929
2 x 61130005197
2 x 61130005198

So what you do is disconnect the plug from the current bulb, plug that into your Pin socket 61136931929 using the two pin contacts 61130005198. Then on the other side connect the socket housing 61138377072 using the two socket contacts 61130005197 and plug that back into the original light. Use the joint in the wires between the 61130005197 and 61130005198 to connect your puddle lamp power wires. This way if you ever had to get things back to normal all you needed to do is plug the light with the car's wiring harness plug back again.
Thanks to Bruce. I fitted my M5 mirrors today and hooked up the puddle lamps using Bruce's diy Y power cable, tapping in from the door puddle lights. The only modification required to Bruce's instructions is that the socket on the door puddle lamp only has a 2 pin connection, and so the mod plug, which is 3 pin needs to be trimmed back (with some cutters) so it becomes a 2 pin plug.

Will post pictures when I can...infact I'll probably do it when dark so you can all see those puddle lamps working.

I actually can't find the puddle lights shown in any of the diagrams on the ETK or realoem. If anyone else can find them then that should lead the way to finding the correct 2 pin socket holder required for the job here.

2 POL pin terminal 61 13 8 373 583
2 POL socket holder 61 13 6 925 634

So the right parts you need to make a perfect Y plug will be

1 x 61138373583
1 x 61136925634
2 x 61130005197
2 x 61130005198

I've been playing with a set of M5 mirrors recently and had a question rsyed.

Before you started this major project did you actually try just putting the mirror on your car and seeing what happens? Why did you assume that the ECU on the LCI car was different from a pre-LCI car.

In step 5 why are you cutting the 3 wires from the ECU that are connected to the plug. I can understand needing to cut the wires that heat the mirror. The reason I ask is because in Step 7 your connecting the cut wires back to the old LCI ECU anyway?

Also does anyone know if you didn't have electro dimming mirrors on your original car does it magically start working if you fit an M5 mirror that has the dimming feature. Ofcourse I'm talking if you dont replace the ECU from the M5 mirror and keep everything as is.

Ok please do. I think I've figured out a way to get the auto fold function to work with a little bit of modification to the mirrors and some electronics. Also I may be able to get the LEDs to work too without too much hassle or any wire cutting. What I'm not sure about is how different are the pre 09/2005 mirrors from the post 09/2005 mirrors in terms of my ideas. I actually believe that the pre- 09/2005 mirrors may actually be easier to modify to get the functions to work.

Yeah it will be great when there is an DIY to get them fold, i think button, and reprogram the ground computer that the car nows that there mirrors with autofold function. whenn there are questions i will be help you guys to find partnumbers.

I have see that there are some partnumbers to retrofit i think.

car gateway module: partnumber:61 35 6 985 363, for cars from 09-2005 till 03/2006
car gateway module: partnumber:61 35 6 157 158, for cars from from 03/2006 til ????

and the partnumber from the button= 61 31 6 951 912 for cars with SA 430 and no rear window screen

For cars with SA 430 and window screen rear window partnumber= 61 31 6 951 922

And i think programming is also needed espacily for mirrors after 2005-9 with SA 430 autofolding/autodimming the bussystem

regards,
