I replaced the fluid and transmission pan/filter in my 2007 530xiT wagon. Was not difficult. Difference from other postings was need to lower front prop shaft to allow access to fill hole on side of transmission. Not difficult to do. Used RedLine D4. Shifting is now extremely smooth. Done at 65000 miles.

So TIS lists part #83220142516 for ATF fluid for ZF GA6HP19Z (6HP19)/GA6HP26Z (6HP26)/GA6HP32Z (6HP32) transmissions. And Pentosin ATF1 refers to BMW part #83229407807.
So how come Pentosin ATF1 is compatible??

pentosin is listed as being compatible with the older bmw fluid spec.
pentosin doesnt actually list itself as being compatible with the oem shell/zf6 fluid spec.
if you're going to spend more money, might as well get the original ZF6 fluid, otherwise get the ford mercon sp if you're on a budget.

In Nashua (NH), there is a place called "U Do It Auto Works". They rent bay for around $30 per hour.
I just did my trans fluid change in my '06 530i. I did the entire job in 1.75 hours. He billed me $52.
They give you one bay with hoist and access to all the tools they have.

same trans, although the lci cars have an electronic shifter, so it may look a bit different.

Good deal. I mean think about it. Even if you have tools, this saves you a lot of time especially if they have a hydraulic car lift etc.....my next project to put in the 3rd garage. If I had a lift I bet you I could do this hole thing in well under an hour.

Nice to see the thread still alive. I have surpassed 50k miles on the Pentosin ATF so it is safe to assume that it is compatible. Have a slow leak towards back of pan, so I will be changing the pan seal shortly.
Nice part is, I now have a 4 post lift. Should make life much easier .

I've put 20K on the car and it shifts smoothly. I keep the plastic undercover off of the vehicle so I can be proactive should anything come up. The only problem i notice is that when i park nose first on an incline, I get a few drips of tranny fluid coming from the drain hole. I have an extra drain plug on hand with a seal but I'm not near ready to change it out. ALTHOUGH if i had a lift like you, it would probably push me to do it LOL. Thats my next project for my 3rd garage. First I have to raise the tracks, springpad and opener....and of course, replace the cables too!

Yeah, its a project. You are better off getting a new door with rails. This way its a clean setup and they can use torsion spring to lift the door. I went with Bendpak and ran a 220V dedicated line for it.
