If the DPF is clogged up it would show in the fault codes as to high back pressure.
Could be that the faulty sensor is making the engine run to rich. Never good if the DDE doesn't get all the sensor readings.
Change the sensor and oil ASAP and then follow up the oil levels.
O and are you sure you have a DPF ? First 2003 and 2004 530d didn't have a DPF. Are the exhaust ends pointing downwarts, then you don't have a DPF.

Hello. I don`t have any issues with my dpf filter in my 08 730d, but I would like to get a used clogged dpf filter. I want one so that I can gut it and install it.
Does anyone know where it is possible to get one?
I have only found new non oem replacements that is around 300-350 euros.
Please let me know if you`ve got one laying around..
I need the dpf that is underneath the car, not the one up front which is a cat/dpf combo.

Hi,
Reading a lot over this as trying to solve my many problems I had my car I've found out those:
- before doing anything to the DPF, analyse and solve the problem that makes your DPF to get clogged. DPF is a simple piece of engineering, like the wheel. It will stop doing it's job only if something bad is happening to it (check thermostats, temperature sensors, injectors issues, former repairs after turbo repairs, oil leaks in the exhaust manifold, oil breather, cracks or miss joints in the exhaust with gas leaks in the cabin).
- do not just plainly break the DPF inside and install to the car, you'll get the car into limp mode
- simple remap of the ECU after DPF removal or change with straight pipe, will just make the car think everything is fine and will stop regen. But it can hurt the turbine as it is calculated to have some differential pressure over the DPF. Without it will not have so the turbine will be affected. Still, none can say how the reliability of the turbo will be affected.
- 20 mm hole trough the clogged DPF could be a fine idea, it will keep some differential pressure, even enough that you'll not need the remap. The hole shouldn't be done trough the center of the DPF and be careful not to brake the DPF while drilling. Some tried with many holes of 3-5 mm in different zones, summed to get the area of the 20 mm hole.

Hi I've got a 2008 525d 3.0
I have started getting a particular filter warning after I've been driving a couple of miles.
But I have since checked the hidden menu and my temp is not getting high enough to start regeneration.
I've ordered new thermostats and do people think one I've installed them I will get regen again and all will be ok or the dpf will need cleaning?
I've no loss of power as yet.

Also check the glow plug status. Not sure what minimum number working needs to be? 4/6?
I had 5 bad ones and bad thermostats - no regen for me till I fixed them and got the DPF off the car for manual (professional) cleaning. No issues since - touch wood.
Good idea to get the D-CAN cable + software to if you want to get right into the problem - but you will spend a bit of time setting it up. Then you know exactly the state of the DPF (back pressure, last regen time, exhaust temps)
Good luck,
Ripley

Got both the EGR thermostat and main one from BMW. But forgot o ring to the EGR one so have to get that.
Question does the main one just come with a thin rubber seal and not a full gasket?

Main one has just a nice, hard to stuff up rubber seal.
I reused my EGR o-ring - looked pretty good - and I havent had any issues.
