DIY LCI tail light retrofit (cheaper method) Verison II
#31
Hi everyone!
I own a 2004 model BMW 5.20i. I modified the tail lights with a 2008 LCI. However, I faced some problems afterwards such as: 1. leds are flashing once I ignite the engine 2. for the flashers I used a regular strobe 3. LCI rods are flashing fastly 4.In park mode not only the rods but the brake lights are also on (please see the attached pictutr). As you may know, modifying the old version tail lights with a new one led the car system not recognize the leds therefore they dont stop flashing. In order to avoid this I hid two regular strobes in the trunk.I found out on web that there are adaptors to adjust these lights but I think they are very expensive. I wonder if any of you have an idea of sorting out this problem? A diagram would be very useful because I can try it myself too.Any comments are much appreciated.

So I gave this a more thorough read today. Looks like what I would need to figure out is the pin schematics on the Bruce's Cables.
Wondering if someone had already done the figuring out already?
(I suppose I could message Bruce as well)

It's a cheaper method, Turn light signal as same as, I cancel the pricy parts for tail and brake signals. And modify the brake signal to fog with brake effect.

I finally had time over the 4th of July weekend to complete the LCI mod after picking up a set of LCI lights from Ricky when I was in HK earlier in the year. Here are some shots of the boards I put together following Ricky's instructions. I initially used 25-ohm power resistors but found I was getting error codes, so I substituted 20-ohm resistors in the taillight circuit on each board and everything now works great. Thanks to Ricky for a most excellent mod!
