Salut Cosmin,

I believe the LEDs are also red, because on my E60, I coloured my needles from white to red, and they still light up orange, as the original ones, so I think they light up whatever color the LED underneath lights up

Aha.
So... does anyone seen an M opened instrument cluster? Are there red LED-s at the needles, or all white?

FYI,

In case anyone wants to know. The M5 needles are clear on top and red at the bottom.

well, looks not good after this mod for F10 which has 4 dials,2 problems:
I, the 2 middle big dials looks obviously less bright than another 2,plan to change to 3528>1600mcd
II,the white light still can be seen on the bottem of all painted-red needles, just like white spots. Dont know what's the next

I don't know how it is for the F10 exactly, but on the E60, it is possible ti disassemble the needles entirely to properly paint it.

Should people want to get even more OCD about it, use red acrylic paint.

As for PLCC2 3528 LEDs, there are brighter ones than 1600MCD available. I believe the last batch I bought were at least 2500MCD.
