I would like to change my iDrive controller knob. I saw one that was black on the top, but I want a different look all together. Something 2"X2" Chrome and not sooo big. Anyone did this change?

I changed the i-drive knob from the regular one to the one with the black leather top It's easy to exchange and looks much better!

What was the part number for the new knob, and how much was it? Also, do you have any DIY instructions for changing them out?

SAME QUESTION. Was just talking to a parts guy and he said they were easy to take off Just buy something with the same shaft width and it's on and poppin'. Looking for a SLENDER dail of some sort. But the leather would be cool too, that's the one I saw on a 2006 I think. This is an AUDI piece!!!!!!!!!!!

The part number is 65 82 6 945 148. I paid $38.37 after tax and discount at my local BMW dealership.

Exchange is really easy just pop it off and pop the new one on.

When you say just "pop it off" what do you mean? Can I break it poppin it off? It cheap plastic right? Is the other knob heavier? My cost $33 from our discount friend at BMWofNEWPORT. Is it worth it. I want something heavier, chrome and heavy!!!!

It's not heavier, nor is it chrome.

To take it off, just pry your fingers underneath the knob and pull up.

That's it!

I don't know about it being heavier but maybe the M5 knob would be something you would like it's a brushed aluminum look ( i don't think they make anything in chrome ) I purchased one but then ended up selling it since i didn't like it. should cost around $65.00.
