dont know if im posting in the right place now but i guess its all related. Very strange that the m5 runs a higher stock ride ht than a sport package e60 yet the m5 has shorter bump stops !? meaning lots more suspension travel without using the b stops.

I cant imagine the m5 ever sits on the bump stops with regular driving, so it does seem to me the sport package using bump stops for regular suspension movement is some sort of design compromise, unless its some sort of marketing thing to get us to buy the superior m5

M5 has a totally different suspension. This info is for all Standard - Sport (DD including) and Msport (non M5) E60s. For E61 applies only to the front.

That is a great pic ! looks like the sport bstop is around the 5/8 drop amount shorter than standard and the m sport is a different profile but the same length as the sport.
To me,
The top portion of M Sport bumpstop doesn't look as stiff as Sport package bumpstop.
This "softer" design on top of M Sport may provide a bit more suspension travel imho rather than trimming sport package bumpstop.

Indeed a great and hard to find comparison pic (save as for future reference)

To date the 3/4'' ive cut from my front sport b stops seems great with no negative effects.

I think your correct Salaki, but its a lot of trouble to take the uprights off to retrofit the m bumpstops, but would probably do that if they do have to be removed for some reason.

I'm not touching my suspension until I feel the itch to go w/ Bilstein Sport in the future, then I either get M Sport bump stop or cut the Sport Package
