I'm about to take on the front brake pad replacement this weekend. I ordered a set of Pagid pads from Bav Auto.

I looked up some threads and found the instructions, but when I removed the right front wheel, I had a couple of problems, so I need some help from people that have done this.

First, the tool described as the 5/16 bit tool holder - 34 1 080 - I tried a 5/16 hex bit but it doesnt seem to engage - will I need to go to BMW and order this tool or can I find one at a hardware store?

Second, there does not seem to be a wear sensor attached on this side. Is there just one on the driver side?

Finally, for the wheel installation, how do you guys align the bolt holes and what is the torque spec?

Would appreciate any tricks/advice to make my job go smoother.

thanks in advance.

You need a 7mm Tool Hex adaptor or similar, available at local Pepboys or Autozone. Remove plastic caps #1 on picture, unscrew pin guides.
Remove spring retainer, #3. Withdraw brake caliper backwards. Remove old pads. Turn piston back(with open bleed valve, of course) and put new pads(bleed system afterward). Reinstall spring, pin guides and caliper onto carrier.

If you don't know how to accomplish that, please don't do this project.

Thanks for the info since I don't have the benefit of a car lift I could not get far enough inside to see. The picture provided appears to be for the rear pads, but I have the pdf already for the front pad replacement instructions found elsewhere.

I've done this before on other cars I don't foresee a problem. I found the wheel harder to align than with other cars because other cars have lugnuts, and my Weds Bavaria wheels are harder to position.
