Bump, can't find the capacity anywhere. Does 1 liter complete a flush?

would there be any problem in doing this by just opening the bleed on the caliper (tube attached of course ) and letting gravity do the trick ? , as i have done on my previous cars , making sure the resevoir never gets empty ?

Thanks for taking the time to put this, it is very helpful!

I am planning to do this over the weekend and have some questions.
I'll have help so I may choose to do this without the Brake Bleeder and just by having one person pump the brakes to bleed them.

In that case, should I just have another person pour in the new brake fluid into the MC to keep it full? Nothing more, right?

Can anyone help validate this process below?

Prep:

- remove trim to get to the MC under the hood
- jack up car->take off wheels

Process:

- start with rear right and take off the bleed valve cover -> connect catch bottle
- have a person start pumping the brake to bleed fluid via the valve
- have another person put in new brake fluid in the MC to ensure that it doesn?t run out of fluid
- repeat for all wheels
- top up the brake fluid in the MC and put the cover/trim back
- remove jack and good to go

Does it matter if I mix brands of the Brake Fluid in the MC since I don?t know what the old one is and I will just buy a new one recommended in this forum?

thanks in advance!!

No, just buy the recommended fluid (DOT4). New fluid will flush the old fluid out. Rrear -> Lrear -> Rfront -> Lfront

Gravity alone is not sufficient to properly bleed the entire system. A second person to pump the brake pedal and you on the bleed valve. Most important thing is not to introduce air in the system. But if it works for you

That same person can pump the brake pedal and check the MC. Just make sure you close the bleeder valve when he lets off the pedal though.

Thanks! I was reading the TIS for Bleeding the Brake System with DSC (SEE Attached) and it had some additonal steps like:

Bleeding rear-axle brake circuit
Connect bleeder hose with collecting tray to bleeder valve on rear right brake caliper.
Close bleeder valve.
Run through bleeding routine with BMW Diagnosis and Information System (DIS) with bleeder valve open.
After completing routine, press brake pedal 5 times to floor, clear and bubble-free brake fluid must flow out.
Close bleed valve. Repeat procedure at rear left.

Bleeding front-axle brake circuit
Connect bleeder hose with collecting tray to bleeder valve on front right brake caliper.
Close bleeder valve.
Run through bleeding routine with BMW Diagnosis and Information System (DIS) with bleeder valve open.
After completing routine, press brake pedal 5 times to floor, clear and bubble-free brake fluid must flow out.
Close bleed valve. Repeat procedure at front left.

do we need to do this after flushing in addition to other steps in the this thread?

Brake fluid change DIY-dis.jpg
It looks like the BMW Diagnosis and Information System (DIS) is a self-powered machine similar to the brake bleeder (manual pump).
The bleeder or the second person helper can do the same function which is to add new fluid and push old fluid out of the system.
