I finally got the shifter bent and I put it back in this afternoon. here's a few pictures for reference.

bottom is the stock pre- 03/05 shifter, middle is the 678 shifter (nearly identical to 373) and on top is the Z4 3.0, now bent.

Very nice Felix Difficulty rating on a scale of 1-10?

bending the lever was actually quite easy, but that's because I went to a local shop that has a jig set up specifically to bend them. the install took about 20 minutes, I've done it so many times now it's old hat. you basically have to buy a couple of extra clips and a replacement carrier, as you will likely damage the carrier on removal and you WILL drop a clip or two into the transmission tunnel area. The last time I did it, I used a set of extra long tweezers rammed into the clip to hold it in place while I slid it onto the selector rod and it worked like a champ.

I've found that the ZHP shift knob makes the shift effort too hard. So, I got the weighted M knob but in the taller version, 25 11 7 896 884. shifts aren't quite as short, but the knob still sits about 1/2" shorter than the 678 with the ZHP knob, and the effort is non-existent. it's like butter going into the gears, even less effort than the 678/ZHP setup. I must admit the ZHP knob looks better, especially with that metal ring around the bottom, but the shift effort difference is significant.

Felix, I got my Z4 3.0 today and will be replacing it this weekend, how can I get the carrier out without tearing it up? If I do tear it up, how much is the replacement? Why did you bend your shifter?

Chesney,

I just wanted to thank you! With your help and suggestions I finished putting in my Z4/3.0 shifter last night and got to drive it today...IT IS GREAT!!

I love it. I went ahead and bent it as much as possible to to look like the OEM shifter. I will keep you what else I do.

Thanks again!
Tobey
