Just got my (2004 545) car back today from it's 60,000km (38,000mile) service with a bill of a little under $200, and that's all I've had to pay the entire year. I don't count the software upgrade that I chose to do for MP3 reasons, that was my choice. The fuel tank valve thing was covered so I don't count that either, besides, it was only $150 or so.

That's a pretty cheap year of ownership for a 2004 car. Now (on thursday) my warranty expires and I either extend it or go without warranty. If it's less than ?500 I'll take it for sure. If it's less than ?1000 I'll be tempted. If it's more than that I'll probably pass. Or maybe look for a warranty that covers only really major items, or has a really big excess, so that I only use it for things that would cost thousands to fix.

Anyone in Germany know of any good independent warranty companies? It'd be nice to have something to compare against when I ask BMW how much to extend it.

I'm within a couple of weeks of my first year of ownership. $340 worth of repair and maintenance items. Plus $16 for my Roundel valve stem caps.

I hope the Lexus owners are reading this. Congratulations on a successful first year. Just like the stock market, past performance is not a guarantee of future outcomes and if you can even get an extended warranty for an 04 ata reasonable price, I would encourage you to do so. Other than that, good luck and keep having fun with your beautiful ride.

if you add up all the extended warranties that can be purchased on many items that you buy, you'll be way ahead by saving your money. unless you just have bad luck in general or something.
