1. Rear differential- for $98 why not?
2. Flush coolant system = $137 doesn't sound too bad for a dealer, but an independent shop may be less costly
3. Skip
4. $161 for an oil change! Yikes! You can get the filter for $15 and Mobil 1 for $5/quart x 6 quarts (guess) = $45. That leaves $116 to buy an oil filter wrench and some other minor things you'll need for the oil change.

As I've already written, call an independent shop for a quick comparison.

Good luck.

According to the last service slip from my dealership, the 4.4L in the 545's requires 8 quarts of oil, not 6.. ?

Plus, don't forget the OP is in Canada.

$20 for filter.
$8/quart for M1 = $64
$10 for oil filter wrench
$10 for oil drip pain

You're at $104 now, and then you have the headache of getting messy and disposing of the old oil. For the extra $60, I'd just pay the dealer.

All great points! Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. The dealership said they would do their best to help with price even more so that we get this all resolved today. So, I asked them to go ahead and get all the work done. They had the car today for the warranty work on the pulley, so it's just easier to finish these other items, rather than going through the hassle of proving another loaner for me at a later date.

I agree with you Jeff, for the extra $60, it's easier to just get the dealer to do the work. I still have an old bucket filled with oil in my Dad's garage from prior oil jobs. The waste disposal service nearby was only open at certain hours a day - the same time that I was in the office. As days went by, I completely forgot, and now that oil is probably several years old!

it is cold outside, so if you dont have a closed garage, its going to be a bit hard to work on it properly. that said, i wouldnt change the oil at bmw if not under warrantee, they are a rip off.in my place, they charge 40$ for resetting your oil service on the idrive(which we all know you can do it yourself).

oh, forgot to mention, they are already giving me a 10% discount on this pricing.
They forgot to tell you about the 20% shop supply charge. (sarcasm, but it might exist.)

I would not walk away from those opportunites; I would run like hell.

4 years maint is free. Period.
