meHall2, I was wondering how much were you able to get starting off retail or were u able to get a deal @ somewhat close to the wholesale price? if so how did u go about getting such a deal, I'm a young man looking to buy such a car in the near and I wouldn't consider myself a good negotiator so I was just wondering what "tactics" you used or did u just go in with the printed information and go from there, thank in advance for any help.

Simple1,

Car Dealing is fun, In my opinion, but also stressful. I am a professional salesperson (Healthcare Industry), so I am used to all the pitches etc. I have found that the more information you can bring to the table, the better position you will be in while dealing. Having you car options checked out on the wholesale option sheet with a written total is always good. Going to multiple dealers is also a plus, as it does allow you to see if you are getting the shaft or not and keeps them honest. I also find that being confident helps. If you can afford a 550i, then there is no reason for your salesperson to play games or treat you with disrespect.

You need to decide on a price you want to pay, add dollars above wholesale, or take dollars away from retail, and make your first offer below that price. I would say upfront that you are not going to spend all day, going back and forth to the manager. Remember, a BMW is not a Chevy, they are not offering $1000's of dollars of rebates or selling below invoice. They sell most everyone they get without trouble. That is one of the reasons the resales are very good with the BMW brand.

My car listed for 66570.00 I am going to buy it for 65000.00. Is it the best deal, no, others have beaten it in Cali and elsewhere. But, I am happy to be getting $1570 off retail on a hot new model, that I really want. I was only expecting $1000 off at the most. So, I exceeded my expectations, which is all that matters to me.

Hope that helps you out and my response was much longer than I expected.

Regards, Mike
