My passenger side headlight was slightly cloudy and decided to try the Mother's headlight restoration kit today. However, it made the headlights look completely worse after I was done sanding and polishing. I hope I didn't permanently damage the headlights? Are the e60 headlight covers more susceptible to scuffing? I followed the directions and wet sanded using the 800, 1500 and then dry sanded using the 3000. Finishing it up with the plastic polish didn't do anything to remove the haze. Any ideas if the covers are damaged? The lights feel very smooth to the touch now.

I wetsanded using the 800 for about 10 minutes, wetsanded using 1500 for 10, dry sanded using the 3000 for another 10, then polished. Maybe the drill I was using didn't have enough speed? I think I may have permanently scuffed up the covers the more I think about it

BMW headlights have a clear coat on them. Once you penetrate that clear layer, it's nearly impossible to get them to look like they did originally. You probably need to clear coat the lens again after you remove ALL scratches and sanding lines. Make sure you use a UV-protected clear as well otherwise the clear will yellow prematurely.
Does anyone know what kind of clear is used on polycarbonate headlights?

they appear hazy due to the light scratches. dont use the 800 anymore, sand longer with the 1500 and even longer with the 3000. then polish for a bit.
puting a clear on will probably prolong the life of the new clearness.

It's not damaged, you just have to keep polishing. I've done this before just using sand paper and a random orbit machine polisher.

I'd also highly recommend applying some sort of UV clear coat protectant afterwards. Otherwise, the lights will return to an ugly cloudy condition again within a year.

I've used 3M rubbing compound after last sanding process and i got good Results.

I called a professional detailer and they cleaned up as much as they could. turns out, most of the haziness was from the interior of the lens. It looks like moisture got in and it left a film in there. Is there anyway to remove that haziness from the inside?

remove the high beam bulb, and use a piece of wire or coat hanger and make a loop on the end and put a piece of cloth on the end. got to make sure no metal edge is exposed or you'll create scratches. spray a little windex or other safe plastic cleaner on cloth and work it in bulb hole and try to wipe what you can.

only other way is to cut housing open and reseal.

I used a 3M kit on each headlight assembly. It took me an hour or so per headlight. Don't rush the job and you can get very good results.

I put a coat of liquid 3M wax on the headlights to protect them from UV rays.
